The impact of the pandemic on us musicians has been devastating. Since March 2020 most cultural institutions across the world were indefinitely closed, events and performances were cancelled or postponed. If we can take something positive out of this, that would probably be the extra free time we have had to try and experiment new things.
A good example of this is Eilidh Hong. We first met her when we organised our Lockdown Violin Duo Competition -she actually got the 2nd prize on her category, self-duo, with a beautiful performance of Elgar's Salut D'Amour! Since then she has been recording more duos that you can enjoy on her Youtube Channel and on the gallery below. She's a keen painter too! A little more about her, on her own words:
My name is Eilidh. I am 11 years old. I love playing violin and piano. I started to play violin self duos during lockdown. My first self duo piece was for the Lockdown Violin Duo Competition organised by Duo Klier. It was challenging but very fun to do. This has given me an opportunity to develop better musical integrity. Besides music, I also like painting. I have a website to showcase my artwork. I think painting is the music of sight.
